Phlebotomy Support

Provides clerical and phlebotomy support for the clinic and hospital laboratory.

Schedule:

• 1.0FTE (40 hours)
• Variable shifts and hours
• Weekend rotations

Compensation:

• $21.20/hr +DOE
• Shift differentials

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Obtains blood samples by using appropriate venipuncture and/or capillary puncture techniques.
2. Labels samples accurately and completely.
3. Instructs patients in the proper collection of urine samples.
4. Collects samples for urine drug testing. Complies with the Department of Transportation guidelines.
5. Collects throat and nasopharyngeal samples.
6. Processes and accessions samples according to established policies and procedures.
7. Processes paperwork for routing samples to the appropriate reference lab.
8. Monitors blood collection supply and sample processing supply inventory.
9. Distributes lab reports to the appropriate areas.
10. Faxes and mails lab reports as needed.
11. Answers the phone and transfers calls to the appropriate department.
12. Maintains clean, organized work environment.
13. Displays professional attributes including but not limited to, punctuality, professional demeanor and presentation; cooperation with peers, other healthcare workers and patients.

Additional Responsibilities:

1. Attends 90% of laboratory staff meetings.
2. Annual completion of all required educational competencies.
3. Attending all mandatory in-service classes.
4. Maintains current CPR certification.
5. Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications (Required):

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Phlebotomy certification and/or a minimum of 6 months of phlebotomy experience.
3. Ability to treat all information as confidential.

2. Positive attitude and flexibility during routine work day.
3. Good verbal and written communication skills.
4. Well groomed, tactful, patient, pleasant and customer focused.
5. Must be able to work a variety of shifts and weekend rotations.
6. Basic computer skills.
7. Prior laboratory or health care experience preferred.
